2022 Fall Symposium
The 2022 Fall Symposium will be Saturday, September 24, in Warsaw at the Harry S Truman Visitor’s Center at Kaysinger Bluff, Truman Dam and Reservoir.
The theme for Archaeology Month 2022 is Dugouts of the Past. Morning presentations will be held at the Visitor’s Center.
Presentations will be followed by a casual tour of the Visitor Center exhibits, hosted by R. Bruce McMillan. The Society came to be due to reservoir construction in Missouri in the 1940s and 1950s and was integral to documenting the many sites to be inundated by the new lakes, including Truman. Dr. McMillan was one of those early investigators.
A catered BBQ picnic lunch at East Bledsoe Ferry Recreation Area just down the road from the Visitor’s Center will follow. After lunch, attendees can visit the Benton County History Museum.
Be sure to make plans to attend and learn more archaeology in Missouri.
Pre-registration and payment is required for those joining us for lunch; an RSVP is requested for those attending, but not having lunch. There is no cost to attend the Symposium, but lunch is $16. Benton County History Museum admission is $3. Registration materials will be emailed to all members and will also be available on the MAS website.
The 2022 Fall Symposium is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District.
