Welcome Reception

Join us in our Hospitality Room for an informal Friday evening reception hosted by the Pomme de Terre and Ozark Highlands Chapters with beverages, hors d’oeuvres, and plenty of socializing. The hospitality room will also be open Saturday evening after the banquet for dessert and more socializing.

Presentations and Exhibits
Speaking and poster presentations about a variety of archaeological topics will be given Saturday.

Attendees and chapters are encouraged to bring artifact displays and exhibits. Exhibit topics might include artifacts, research presentations, posters, etc. Table space is also available at no charge for those who might have books, reproductions, or other archaeology-related items to display or sell (no artifact sales or trades).

Publications and Apparel Sale and Silent Auction
MAS publications and apparel will be available. Other booksellers will also be present.

Books, art, collectibles, and other items will be available at the silent auction. Please contact the MAS office if you would like to donate items for the auction. Donations are tax deductible. Silent Auction proceeds support Missouri Archaeology Month activities such as the poster and Fall Symposium.

Workshops
Two workshops will be presented on Saturday afternoon.

Banquet and Koch Lecture
The Saturday banquet dinner will be a choice of Cherrywood Smoked Pork Loin with house BBQ sauce or Lemon Buerre Blanc Weiskopf Chicken.
The 2023 Koch Lecturer is Dr. Bonnie Styles who will present The Evolving Story of Change and Variability in Human Use of Animals in the Eastern United States. You do not have to purchase a banquet ticket in order to attend this presentation. We will also have door prizes to give away at the banquet.

Sunday Field Trip Options (will occur concurrently, please choose one)
Camden County Museum of Missouri
Participants will visit the Camden County Historical Society’s Historic School House Museum in nearby Linn Creek. Founded in 1962, the Museum is dedicated to preserving local and Missouri history and has many exhibits including pre- and post-contact artifacts from the towns of Camdenton, Laurie, Macks Creek, Montreal, Osage Beach, Richland, Sunrise Beach, Stoutland, and all around Camden County. The tour will be self-guided. Other exhibits include tools, clothing, furniture, firearms, and Civil War memorabilia.
There is no charge for the museum admission, but a donation is suggested. The tour will be at 11 a.m.
Bridal Cave Underground University Cave Tour
This two-hour hands-on educational program includes tours of two caves, two outdoor classrooms, and interactive educational activities.
The program begins with an informative tour of Bridal Cave and continues with a ½-mile nature walk in Thunder Mountain Park where participants will actively participate in learning activities. The tour concludes with a lantern tour of Bear Cave that features a blacklight mineral display. Attendees will learn about the unique relationships between the surface and subsurface of the Missouri Ozarks and discover fascinating facts of the karst topography of the Missouri Ozarks.
Bridal Cave is located just north of Camdenton on Highway 5. The program will begin at 10 a.m. Cost to attend is $20 for adults and $10 for children aged 5-10.

Venue: Lodge at Old Kinderhook

Lodge at Old Kinderhook amenities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness room, and onsite restaurants.
Room amenities include flat-screen TVs, cable, and wireless internet. Golf, a spa, a marina, and several other for-fee recreational activities are available onsite. Special MAS group rates for a king or two queens will be $119/night, plus tax.
In order to receive the reduced rate, the Society booking code 041423ARCH must be mentioned when making the reservation. Rooms may also be booked online at this link using the same group code. If you make reservations online, you need to click “add code.” Where it says “discount code,” use the drop-down and select “group attendee,” then add the above group code and click “add.” A block of 50 rooms will be held for our attendees at the reduced rate until March 11. Availability beyond that room block may be limited.
The Lodge is waiving the resort fee for our guests, please inspect your receipt at check-in to make sure that you were not charged this fee.
